STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN 2023

A message from Fr Colin and the Church Wardens

Living a generous life

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.’ (2 Corinthians 9:6).

We launch this campaign on the Feast of Candlemas, also known as the Feast of the Presentation of Christ. In our Gospel reading for the day, we hear of how the infant Jesus is Presented to God in the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. The words of the elderly Simeon remind us that the life of this infant child will end in suffering on the cross and a sword will pierce Mary’s heart. As we reflect on what Christ has done for us, we are asked to consider how we might respond by living lives of generosity.

During this campaign week we ask you to prayerfully consider how you might do so in the following ways:

Generous with our labour: In what ways can we offer ourselves to God in all that we do for Him here at St George’s?

Generous in our Expertise: in what ways do we share the skills, gifts and experience we have been given to benefit others and the Church?

Generous in our Interactions: In what ways are we generous in the small things in life, including our daily interactions with other people?

Generous in our financial giving to the Church: What this will look like will be different for each person, depending on individual circumstances. No one should be expected to give more than can be realistically afforded. Jesus’ words about the window’s mite teaches us that for some a small amount might be incredibly generous. (Mark 12:42).

The stewardship packs have information on each of these areas of our Christian life together.
Our campaign will end on Sunday March 5th, 2023.

Stewardship Prayer 2023

God, from whom all good things come,
you shower us with blessings
and you make us stewards of your world;
give us generous hearts,
make us cheerful givers,
filled with desire to see the dawning
of the Kingdom of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ, our Lord,
Amen.
