One April Sunday was devised
									A Parish Outing, organised
To Windsor Castle and the town.
Though on the way the rain poured down
The torrents stopped, the sky had cleared
									Before our destination neared.
We headed for the Castle gate
With tickets, we’d no need to wait.
Our map in hand we made our way
With stops for “audio tour” to play
At numbered markings as we went.
									A happy afternoon we spent.
Saw gardens and the Round Tower, queued
For entry to the Castle, viewed
The State Apartments, and we saw
Queen Mary’s Dolls House, and lots more.
Of course, to finish had to stop
And browse for gifts inside the shop.
									Then at a Restaurant nearby
Had tea and teacakes, apple pie,
									And afterwards, as people do
We felt the need to find the loo!
These as we found, located where
Were reached by steep and windy stair.
									A little bit like Everest,
Our Ruby climbed it with the best!
On leaving, window shopped a while
Then walked to river, half a mile.
And back again, before too long
									’Twas five fifteen and Evensong
									Inside St George’s Chapel, where
We had arranged that we’d be there,
									Thus organised with “grandstand” view
We had our own allotted pew
And listened to the glorious sound
Of choir and organ all around.
									And afterwards, contentedly
Back down the hill all walked and we
Set off for home, and all agreed
We’d had a splendid day indeed.
